THE RUCKED FILES – No.18
Bournemouth Sevens
Who are you?
Bournemouth Sevens International Rugby, Netball and Music Festival- in 2008 the inaugural festival was born and quickly became the largest in Europe attracting over 12,000 people in its first year! 2009 promises to be even bigger with 20,000 people enjoying the sport, music and entertainment over the May Bank Holiday from Friday the 22nd- Sunday 24th May 2009.
Why should we care about you?
Bournemouth Sevens is the largest sevens festival of its kind in Europe! Due to the high demand of team entries we have now extended our team entries to 120 teams, including the new Sunday Sevens Cup. Plus to keep the guys happy we are also running the National Netball Festival alongside the tournament so there will also be 1,000 netballers playing at the festival!
Who are the teams to beat?
Stash All Stars won the 2008 National Invitation Cup and already vying for the top spot in 2009! New entries this year include the Navy Sharks, Kooga Wailers (Newcastle Falcons) and Marchwood Sharks who will all be hotly competing to be crowned the Bournemouth Sevens champions. In the ladies cup the invitational Wooden Spoon side are definitely the team to beat after their success last year.
Who’s going to be there?
Strictly Come Dancing’s Austin Healey will be at the festival shaking his snake hips and signing autographs all weekend. England International stars Lewis Moody and Olly Barkley will also be absorbing the atmosphere with the 20,000 festival goers. Just confirmed to the event are Gladiator, Big Brother and Hollyoaks stars- so make sure you have your camera at the ready to take lots of pics!
Any famous players?
If celebrities such as Healey, Moody and Barkley aren’t enough for you there will also be a host of Guinness Premiership players competing in the National Invitation Cup.
So what are my chances of kissing one of the celebs there?
Well I can’t guarantee anything, but they’d definitely be increased if you pick up your VIP Golden ticket for the weekend. This will give you access to the VIP marquee which will be hosting the ultimate VIP closing party on Sunday 24th May 09, tickets are available from Ticketmaster for £40 and include weekend entry to the festival.
Anything else we should know about?
There will be loads of entertainment throughout the weekend including the RFU roadshow, Military parachute display zooming onto pitch 1 at 180mph and the festival stage pumping out tunes from lives bands and resident DJs until 1am. The onsite camping village for 3,000 people also creates a bargain weekend for all at just £40 per person for 3 nights camping.
