THE RUCKED FILES – No.15
Llandaff North RFC
Who are you?
We are a community rugby club based in the northern outskirts of Cardiff. We run three senior sides, one youth side, one veterans' side, one under-17 ladies side, one senior ladies side, five mini sides and four Junior sides. Our success this year has been topped with our senior men’s side winning Division 4 South East of the WRU National Leagues as well as the East District Cup. Our 3rd XV also won Cardiff and District Division 3. However our real success is the number of teams we put out each week.
Why should we care about you?
We pride ourselves in being a community rugby club. A rugby club is for life!! Not just for a term. People play for The North because they want to!! We provide training and coaching facilities for all ages. We do not discriminate by ability, colour, race, nationality or religion. We also supply hospitality for games at the Millennium Stadium (we are only 10 minutes away. Not hooray henry stuff but the real McCoy. Home cooking and good ale.
But what makes you different from the rest?
Bring a pair of boots along to The North and you play rugby (after registration of course). Everybody gets a game when we play. We don’t have a beer garden, we have a Caribbean Lounge! We don’t have bar staff, we have Thirst Consultants. We will play anybody, anytime, anywhere. A pre-set path of rugby from under-8s to veterans. No need to look anywhere else – unless you are good enough, and you want to!
What was your finest moment?
Playing rugby every Saturday and Sunday and winning the League and Cup double this season.
And your worst?
None!! Every rugby day is fun.
Any famous players (past or present)?
Mike Rayer, Sean Legge, Tommy Whitfield have all progressed to senior clubs in the past.
Any current players who are a bit special?
Our three senior captains, Mike Fussey, Jeff Cruise and Bob Bowen are extra special. They have persevered this season, made everybody’s life hell but have produced the goods. Paul Molden, James Walters, Dominic Scoble, fine examples of rugby fanatics. West Ham and Wally just wont retire.
Describe your club in three words?
Community, fun, friendly
What are you after?
We want to continue to give everybody the opportunity to learn about and play rugby. Whatever it is dressed up as – tag, touch, sevens, tens, the full game – we support it. Rugby is one of life’s essentials. We look for success on the field and fun and enjoyment on and off the field. We would also like a new clubhouse so if anybody has 1.8million smackaroonies going spare come and see us.
